Ear wax is part of your bodies natural defence against bacteria and fungus. It is produced by glands of the ear canal. It typically falls out from time to time, as the skin of the ear canal grows from inside to outside and acts as a conveyor belt removing any debris. Some people overproduce wax or the natural flow of the wax is impaired by use of hearing aids or cotton buds. This can lead to obstruction of the canal and decreased hearing. Excess wax can also lead to moisture being trapped in the canal and lead to infection of the canal (otitis externa).
A small suction device used with the help of a microscope can effectively clear the wax restoring hearing.
